Can You Hold Guinea Pigs Too Much?

Guinea pigs are social creatures that appreciate human interaction.

However like with any animal there is such a thing as too much handling.

If you find that your guinea pig is getting skittish or seems uncomfortable when you try to pick them up it’s likely that you’re handling them too much.

There are a few things you can do to cut down on the amount of handling your guinea pig receives.

First try to limit how often you pick them up.

If you need to pick them up for something like cleaning their cage try to do it in a way that is as gentle and stress-free as possible.

Second try to provide them with plenty of hiding spots and safe places to retreat to when they want some alone time.

If you think you might be handling your guinea pig too much it’s important to back off and give them some space.

Let them come to you when they’re ready for some attention and you’ll both be much happier.

Do Guinea Pigs Like Behind Held Too Much?

Every guinea pig has their own preferences and personality.

Some guinea pigs might enjoy being held behind their backs while others may not be as fond of it.

Ultimately it’s up to you to experiment and see what your guinea pig enjoys.

If they seem to be uncomfortable or agitated when you hold them behind their back then it’s probably best to avoid doing it.

However if they seem to be relaxed and happy then they probably don’t mind it too much.

If you’re not sure just ask your vet or another experienced guinea pig owner for their opinion.
