Do Ducks Eat Frogs?


While ducks are omnivores and will eat just about anything including frogs they don’t usually go out of their way to seek them out as a meal.

In the wild a duck’s diet consists mostly of plants small fish insects and other invertebrates. That being said if given the opportunity most ducks will eat a frog if it’s available.

Some farmers have even been known to use frogs as bait to lure ducks into their traps!

So while it’s not something they would typically choose to eat ducks are not above eating frogs if the opportunity presents itself.

Some people say that mallard ducks only eat frogs if they are starving while others claim that frogs make up a significant part of the mallard duck diet.

Some frogs are poisonous and can cause ducks to become sick or even die if they eat them. However there are many species of frogs that are safe for ducks to eat.

These include American Bullfrogs Wood Frogs Green Frogs and Leopard Frogs. Ducks typically eat amphibians such as frogs as part of their diet.
