Do Snake Breeders Make Money?

This is a question that many people ask and the answer may surprise you.

While some snake breeders do make a profit many do not.

In fact some breeders even lose money.

So why do people breed snakes if they don’t always make money? There are a few reasons.

First some people breed snakes because they love snakes and want to help preserve the species.

Second some people breed snakes because they want to sell the offspring to people who want to keep snakes as pets.

And lastly some people breed snakes because they want to use the snakes for their own personal collection.

No matter the reason breeding snakes can be a costly endeavor.

First you must have a proper enclosure for the snakes.

This enclosure must be large enough to accommodate the number of snakes you plan on breeding and it must be escape-proof.

Second you must purchase the appropriate food and water for the snakes.

Third you must have a heat source in the enclosure as snakes are cold-blooded animals.

Fourth you must have the proper lighting in the enclosure as some snakes are nocturnal and require special lighting.

And lastly you must have a vet on call in case of any medical emergencies.

All of these costs can add up quickly and if you are not careful you can easily spend more money than you make.

So do snake breeders make money? The answer is yes and no.

It depends on a number of factors including the type of snakes being bred the number of snakes being bred the costs associated with breeding and the final sale price of the offspring.
